The Ume Group’s PASSING

Created & Performed by Jordan Rosin & Yokko

Jordan Rosin (USA) and Yokko (USA/Japan) – founding members of The Ume Group – present PASSING, a community-driven contemporary performance in the surrealist spirit of Japanese Butoh Dance.

The show is a highly physical exploration of time, mortality, generation, and parenthood, featuring a collage of physical theatre and multimedia set to a soundtrack of community interviews & experimental music mixed through machine learning body interfaces by Oglála Lakȟóta performance artist/composer Kite.

Thematically, PASSING draws inspiration from the creators’ own histories of “passing:” Yokko’s experience of their mothers’ “passing on” and the “passing of the torch” from Jordan to their new child. The performance also features video, audio, and multimedia from community interviews and an archive curated by Drs. Carol Weisse & Kelly Melekis of 20,000+ notes from volunteer caretakers in social model hospice homes.
