Directing & Choreography

Jordan first studied directing at Syracuse University with Robert Moss (Playwrights Horizons, Hangar Theatre), Rodney Hudson, and Stephen Cross (Irondale Canada). Since then, he’s been influenced by other fantastic mentors/colleagues like Terry Griess & Jim Niesen of the Irondale Ensemble Project, Brian Rhinehart (Actors Studio Drama School), and Michael Fields & Joan Schirle (Dell’Arte International). Jordan’s process as a director emphasizes ensemble-based approaches to both scripted and original works along with with a deep respect and affinity for play across styles. He has directed for Virginia Tech, The Ume Group, Auburn Regional Theatre, Stone Soup Theatre, Oddfellows Playhouse, as well as assistant directing with Seattle Shakespeare Company.

As a choreographer, Jordan’s work draws heavily on PopAction, Parkour, Acrobatics, Butoh, Contemporary, Contact Improv, and Animal Movement. His choreographic inspirations include Elizabeth Streb, Noemi LaFrance, Steven Hoggett, along with his butoh teachers Vangeline, and Tetsuro Fukuhara. Critics have called Jordan’s work “beautiful & disturbing” (nytheatre.com) and praised it for “commanding, physically impressive performances” (The Village Voice).

Jordan is an Associate Member of SDC, the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society.
